Five Things to Consider When Hiring a DJ
1. Look for a DJ that not only fits your personality, but also is able to facilitate entertainment throughout the evening. Some guests will need a bit more motivation than others to get involved in the festivities on the dance floor and enjoy the celebration, so be sure your DJ has a plan and knows how to make even the most reluctant wall flower want to 'boogie down'.
2. Ask the coordinator at your reception venue for any time limits and rules as to how long and when you can have your reception and DJ playing music. This will help you and your DJ to come up with the best timeline to follow for your wedding day. A well planned reception will make for a happy experience for everyone!
3. Do your research. Hire a professional with references and experience that you personally feel a connection with, not just someone your reception venue tells you to hire or with the fanciest lighting equipment. Lighting and quality sounds systems are certainly important, but it is the DJ's personality and talent that can make or break how entertained your guests will be.
4. Always meet your DJ before booking with them. This will help you choose a professional that is willing to work with you and your needs. Also, some entertainment companies have several DJ's working for one company which is absolutely okay, but be sure you are meeting with the person that will actually be at your wedding so there are no surprises.
5. Hire a professional DJ with a back up system. Electronic break downs can happen at a moments notice so the DJ you hire should be well prepared and ready for anything.

Five Things to Consider When Hiring a Wedding Band
1. Look for a band that plays or even specializes in the style of music you like. This will make it easier for you to come up with music selections that everyone will be comfortable with, be excited about, and enjoy.
2. Listen to a sound clip, youtube video, dvd, or attend a live gig the band you like is performing at. No one wants to be surprised on their wedding day with bad music so be sure the band you are interested in sounds like music to your ears!
3. Hire a professional with references and experience playing at weddings. Professionals will know how typical wedding day timeline should be flowing and if a problem should arise they also know how to compensate so that no guest knows their was ever an issue. References are great because you will get first hand stories from those whom have enjoyed their experience with the band playing at their own event.
4. The band you hire should be willing to learn your requests for songs that are special to you. With enough notice to learn something new to add to their repertoire and a bit of hard work a good band should be able to learn a song request that holds importance to you.
5. Review details of your wedding day at your venue with the band you are interested in before making the commitment to hire them. Reviewing details will allow the band to understand what exactly you are requesting and how you would like things to flow. Also, this will show you how prepared and willing the band will be to go the extra mile to make your wedding day special.
