Fresh Flowers

Caring For Fresh Wedding Flowers
Cut Flower Stems On A Diagonal...
This will prevent and alleviate air bubbles in the stems. It also gives the stem more surface to take in water. Use a sharp knife or scissors to cut the stem on a forty five degree angle about an inch from the bottom for the best results.

Cold Not Warm Water...
Prevent your flowers from drooping early by placing them in cool water. Warm water makes it difficult for most flowers to take in the water and may cause blockage in the stems. Submerge the stems in no more than six inches of water and make sure the temperature of the water you are submerging them into is about the same as the air in your refrigerator.

Do Not Place In A Refrigerator...
Placing flowers in a refrigerator may sound like a great idea on face value but it is definitely not. Unless you happen to have an extra refrigerator with nothing in it, your flowers will die faster than if left in a warm room. This is because things like fruits and vegetables (and other foods) that are typically found in a refrigerator give off gases that wilt and decompose flowers. Chemicals used to clean appliances can effect them in a negative way as well. It is best to leave flowers in a dark and cool place. If you have an unfinished basement or a guest room with air conditioning they are much better places for your cut flowers.

Add Lemon Juice and Sugar...
Keep the blooms on your flowers perky and lasting longer with a little acid and sugar combination. Add just a teaspoon or two of lemon juice or vinegar along with a couple pinches of sugar to the water in your vase and stir before adding your flowers. A little goes a long way and more is not better. You can also use Sprite to accomplish the same goal of keeping your flowers alive and perky.
